If yesterday was any indication of things to come for the upcoming season and for the future; the Patriots are in good hands. The young but talented defense has shown improvements, the rookies have impressed and the veterans are doing their job. Third year players Kyle Love and Jermaine Cunningham have been dominating the line…just asked the Eagles O-line and Michael Vick. The above picture shows Jermaine sacking Vick viciously causing Vick to leave the game. The broken play by the Eagles was caused by linemen Kyle Love.
Though Brady, Welker, and most of the offensive weapons didn’t play, second year QB Ryan Mallet did play. And he played like he’s been learning a lot from his mentor, Tom Brady. He didn’t have an “OH MY GOD” type of game but as a Pats fan you know with this guy as your future QB you wouldn’t be upset. He has the size and build of Brady but the movement and play of Aaron Rodgers. This guy will be ready when his number is called to take over the Pats, but that’s all the way in the future. This is still Brady’s team. Why didn’t Brady and many other players last night? Belichick wanted to rest his top guns considering that game was one of three being played in a span of 11 days. Yes, 3 preseason and football games being played in 11 days. The pre season should really only be about two games, but that’s an argument for another day.
I said last nights game was a sign of good things to come because of the way Mallet was moving the offense and how well the defense played. Yes it’s only the preseason but the Eagles have one of the most explosives NFL offenses, and played their guys well into the third quarter and the Pats defense held their own. From now until the beginning of the season the Pats need to keep improving and stay consistent. Right now, things are looking good!
